Medical term: miliaria.
What is it?
Heat rash usually develops when you’ve been in a hot and humid environment. The common characteristics of heat rash are very tiny, clear or red, probably very itchy, bumps on the skin.
What causes it?
Heat rash is happens when your sweat glands become clogged with dead skin cells. Prolonged exposure to perspiration can cause your glands to get plugged. Surprisingly, this rash may occur more in the winter than summer, because your glands are not being used as actively, and they may be covered over with skin.
What can I do to get rid of this rash?
- Avoid excessive heat and humidity.
- Wear loose, nonrestrictive cotton clothing that allows your skin to breathe.
- Take a cool bath; wash with a rough washcloth to help open up pores.
If you have a severe rash or any signs of infection, see a health care provider.
