How do I treat eczema?
There is no cure for eczema, but there are ways to keep the outbreaks under control. You can:
- Take lukewarm baths. This will help remove the crusty skin. Sometimes bathing or showering twice a day can help.
- Moisturize right after you pat dry. In some situations, a thicker, more fat filled moisturizer maybe necessary.
- If your skin is inflamed and itchy, you may want to try an over the counter hydrocortisone creams. This will help reduce the itch.
- Diet can also play a role in treatment. You may want to avoid foods that trigger eczema outbreaks. And consider the following: Red meat contains fatty acids that promote the body’s inflammatory response and may make eczema worse. It has also been said that fish oil, containing eicosapentaenoic acid, may reduce the severity of eczema.
- Take your vitamins. Vitamins A and E, and the mineral zinc are all important for healthy skin.
- Last, but not least …Relax!…eczema can be triggered by stress, so just chill.
A doctor can prescribe stronger creams if home treatments don’t clear up your eczema.
